More Good News

As one famous movie/book character says "Greetings and salutations", I think it was the pig in Charlottes Web.
This will not be very long, just a quick note to let you know we had our 'carol sing' outside as planned, however not as many came as we thought might. The weather had been cold and rainy up until about 5PM. The party began at 6 with overcast skies which made it a little warmer and no rain. God does answer prayer. All 28 of us had a great time singing and munching on the 'goodies' that Leigh worked so hard in making, in spite of the mini stove and oven.
Second piece of good news is that I started work on Mon. the 21st of Dec. Still lots of documentation has to be done but I am on the job.
Keep tuned, hopefully if my limited computer skills improve some we will have pictures of the carol sing to post soon.

Well, things are finally coming together. Yesterday, Sat. 11/28, we were blessed with a refrigerator by a couple who had two. Now all that is left is to get a full stove.
On Friday Dec. 11th we are having our first outreach, if you will. We will be inviting approximately 100 people to an outdoor carol sing at our house. If you look at the house pictures you'll understand why it will be outside for 100 people; and you can see why we need a stove, because we will be making/baking Christmas goodies to go along with the hot cider. We have a wonderful DVD of children in a snowy area singing the carols, with the words on the bottom of the screen, while they are in different places, ie: on a sleigh ride, outside at a church, etc. We would certainly appreciate your prayers for this time that those who come will be blessed as we kick off the Christmas Season singing.

Yesterday was a red letter day, we actually went to a yard/garage on the base. The base was selling off some excess household items such as pots/pans, lamps, dvd & cd players, blankets, carpets, etc. We scored big time and got close to $300-$350 worth of goods for about $56. That's better than an e-ticket ride @ Disneyland(if you remember those). Even got a huge rug. What we really need most now is a refrigerator because some of the young guys we have met are asking when we are going to start opening our home for biblestudy and fellowship. Of course that can't be done without some type of food for the body as well. That really encourages us, like confirming what we felt God sent us here to do. We will be inviting people over for fellowship during the holidays and then begin bible study in January.

If anyone would like to send Christmas cards to the 'troops' here now is the time to start thinking about it. More information will be forthcoming soon on this matter.

Thanks for your love and prayers!

Pictures of the New Place

At last, here are pictures of our new home in Greece. As you can see, we haven't moved in yet, but we should by the end of the month. The house is now painted yellow. The man in the picture is our landlord and he is getting ready to paint.

Greetings from the island of Crete where it is now getting cooler but still nice when the sun is out even though we have had our first snow of the year in the mountains. Most of it is gone now though because of the rain and sun. Soon we will have some pictures of our house, city of Chania, and the surrounding area posted for you to see.
Last night, Nov. 8th, on the way home from bible study we came around a curve in the road and low and behold there was a whole flock of sheep just lying in the road. Their eyes gleamed in the headlights, kind of eerie, looking at us as if to say "what are you doing in our house". Blowing the horn didn't seem to move them too much, so had to just gradually drive forward and then they began to move out of the way. One of my Godsons, Scott who is a fireman, wrote back and said "should try it with a firetruck, air horns, and deer in the road. Lots of fun." Guess some situations never change - just the participants. Sorta like Christianity, huh!
Blessings be upon you.

The Wind's a-Blowin'!

Hold on to your hats everyone. We are having the Greek version of Santa Ana winds. Very much alike. Strong and warm. Winds are blowing directly out of the South coming off the African coast. We are only about 150 mile from Libya.

We are doing fine, I'm on the computer and Leigh is still asleep at 9:55 in the morning our time 10/16/09. Yesterday was a goof off day, We went into the town of Chania and walked around - shops as usual - and ate at a restaurant by the harbor. All in all it was a pretty good day.

Still no job yet, will turn in application to another place and wait to see. Apparently jobs are not too easy to get here because of the smallness of the base. God's in control, either a job will open, or we'll get a lot of financial support, or we'll win the lottery which we never play. The job would be best because it will allow us to stay here longer without a hassle.

We love y'all and thank you for your support and prayers, blessings upon you,

Chuck & Leigh

We Found A House!

We rented a small, approximately 800 sq.ft., 3 bedroom (actually 2) house yesterday just 1/2 mile from Stavros Beach where the movie Zorba the Greek was filmed.

It is small inside, but outside is fantastic. Long covered front porch with built-in seating and large table. Off the porch is a round built-in table and seating. Two areas for grilling and an outside oven for baking bread, pizza, or . . . Huge yard for a garden and plenty of parking. And it's only about a 20 minute drive to the base.

We take possession on Nov. 1st. God is good!! Now all we need is a car and for me (Chuck) to get a job. Needless to say we are excited. The house is much smaller than we thought we wanted, but with all the outside space we believe it will do fine for our needs as well as for the ministry. Most of the year will be outside-type activity anyway. Plus it fits right in with the old Jackson axiom - 'the price was right.' We have already had offers from people about giving or loaning us furniture, PTL! It won't take too much to fill up the place.
